Sustainable smoking supports modern food production

The CleanSmoke Coalition (CSC) participated (at impresses) in this year’s IFFA for the first time – the most important trade show for the meat processing industry. The coalition, a joint initiative for sustainable smoking, is an important point of contact not only for the food industry, including retail, but also for consumers and environmentalists. Seven CSC member companies informed IFFA visitors about the latest developments in health- and environmentally conscious smoking without harmful substances such as tar, ash, or PAHs.

The CleanSmoke Coalition offered potential new members as well as other interested parties the opportunity to learn more about the CSC’s achievements. During a two-hour tour of member companies’ stalls, they visited Kerry, Nactis Flavour, Oltmer Food Consulting, ProFagus, R2H Flavor Technology, Red Arrow, and Ruitenberg Ingredients. The companies, whose stalls marked them as CSC members, operate in diverse markets. The tour participants were mainly interested in the acceptance of CleanSmoke in France, Germany, the US, and in the Netherlands. They also wanted to find out how CleanSmoke is being used and marketed.

20 percent membership increase expected

With its transparent operation, the CSC is aiming to establish itself as the first point of contact for the entire food industry for all questions concerning modern smoking. This endeavour is increasingly successful: the benefits of CleanSmoke, namely health, resource, and environmental benefits, manage to convince more and more customers, leading to heightened demand – and impresses at IFFA. The CSC’s presence at IFFA can be summed up as a success: “During the last six days, we have spoken to numerous producers and potential members“, says Uwe Vogel, chairman of the CleanSmoke Coalition. “The time for CleanSmoke has come“. In the near future, Vogel expects a membership growth of 20 percent. Existing members want to grow the publicity of CleanSmoke and, above all, its declaration as real smoke. A strong signal to EU bureaucrats just before the European Elections.
